The New BMW 2-Series Lineup
The 2-Series is available in 228i or M235i variants, and with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (xDrive), and in coupe or convertible body styles. Powertrains consist of either a 240hp 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder, or a 320hp 3.0-liter turbo 6-cylinder. An 8-speed conventional automatic transmission is standard, but RWD 2-Series can opt for a 6-speed manual at no extra charge. The 228i will go from 0-60 mph in about 5 seconds, while the M235i will do it in 4.5 seconds or less. Fuel economy numbers are great in this sporty offering; 23 mpg city, 36 highway for a RWD 228i with an automatic transmission.
BMW 2-Series Standard Equipment and Options
BMW sells the 2-Series in 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder versions, with 6-cylinder M235i versions getting the most standard features. The BMW 2-Series coupes and convertibles can be equipped with plenty of options, many of which can be added on individually. The 228i comes standard with many items like 17" alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic wipers and headlights, automatic dual-zone climate control, full Bluetooth connectivity, an iDrive interface with 6.5" screen, CD changer, and 10-speaker stereo with USB input. Move up to the M235i and you get 18" wheels with summer performance tires, sporty suspension with adaptive dampers, upgraded brakes, xenon adaptive headlights, a body kit, sunroof, 10-way power sport seats, and more.
Of course, you can also get an all-wheel drive version of the 228i coupe, 228i convertible, and M235i coupe. Convertibles come standard with a black fabric top, but options include anthracite or brown color options. BMW 228i buyers can choose from 3 different sport packages, each of which includes some of the upgrades that come standard on the M235i. Order the Sport Line or M Sport package, plus the Track Handling package and you basically have the M235i, but with the more efficient 4-cylinder motor. The Cold Weather package adds heated seats and a heated steering wheel, plus headlight washers. The Driver Assistance pack gets you a rearview camera and parking sensors. The Technology package includes all the modern tech including voice-controlled GPS navigation, BMW smartphone app integration, a bigger iDrive screen, and more. There is also a Driver Assistance Plus package, which includes the Assistance and Tech package equipment, plus adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation with automatic braking, lane departure monitors, and much more.
